Do I need a Carpenter or a Joiner?
A question quite often asked; so, what is the difference?
A Joiner is quite simply someone who joins two pieces of wood to each other! Therefore, if your job needs something built or put together using wood – then it’s a Joiner you require.
A Carpenter installs what the Joiner has made!
Tradition was that a Joiner made the products in a “Joinery Shop”, or on a “Bench”, and would pass it on to the Carpenter who would be on site to fit it. Luckily, Mark is time-served in both roles, therefore, he can make, build, construct what you need and install it for you. Similarly, if you buy an off the shelf product – produced by a large manufacturer (doors, kitchens, flooring etc), as a Joiner & Carpenter Mark will fit it for you.
In simple terms, if the work you need doing involves woodwork, Mark is qualified to do it for you.

A new staircase can absolutely change the look of your room.
Whether you want to modernise or just go for a complete change of style; just change the spindles, or take it that further step, it’s amazing the difference even a small change can make.
Mark is unable to custom build a new staircase for you however, he does fit manufacturers standard balustrades, handrails and spindles to update your existing staircase.
Do you need new doors? Mark will fit your new doors for you, including all door furniture, although he does recommend choosing your own door handles meaning you can have exactly the finish you are looking for.
Is your doorway a non-standard size? Mark will advise you on the way forward – he could even make you a custom-made door.
A further service Mark provides is skimming doors after new flooring is laid.
From fitting a full kitchen, to replacing worktops or even just changing doors, Mark can update your kitchen for you. Either, contact Howdens (Fenton) 01782 445100, for a complete kitchen design and supply, mentioning Marks name, will give you their best possible deal! Or, supply your own units from one of the many other suppliers and Mark will come along and fit it for you. He can do most work for you except for plastering, plumbing or electrics, but he does have the contacts in these trades to recommend to you as they do work together to complete work on a regular basis. Tiling and/or painting & decorating can also be carried out.
Need a new or replacement Garden Gate? There are many gates available to buy from local garden suppliers and DIY stores. These gates are mass produced by large manufacturers and will be less expensive than having a Custom-made Garden Gate. However, they can be less sturdy and maybe not as secure as having one made for yourself. If it’s a Quality finish you’re after, and built for longevity, then ask Mark for a quote. He could even make you some fencing or trellis to co-ordinate with your new gate.
We all need a wardrobe! Is there just not enough room in a standard free-standing wardrobe? Or is there just not enough space in the bedroom for the wardrobe space you need? Does your room have strange wasted spaces where no furniture will fit? How about having fitted wardrobes? Have you considered having some wardrobes built to fit the space you do have?
Custom Built for those spaces where standard doors won’t fit!!! If you’d like a wardrobe designed to better suit your needs, Mark will come along and discuss with you what options are available. Primarily built with either MDF or Pine, and finished to your specifications. Painted, varnished, waxed or left unfinished for you to complete – whatever your choice. Mark is unable to supply High Gloss doors or sliding doors; however, you can purchase these separately and Mark will create an interior space for your wardrobe. The interior space can be rails, shelves, drawers or a combination of all.
